School of Education Research
Welcome to School of Education Research index
The School of Education has well-established formal research centres, publishes three refereed journals and boasts the largest number of doctoral-qualified staff of any School of Education in New Zealand, placing it in the top 20% internationally. In 2005 it attracted $NZ4 million in research funding.
The School's key research centre is the Wilf Malcolm Institute of Educational Research (WMIER). The Institute was established by the University of Waikato to undertake, support and disseminate research relating to the broad field of education. Its mission is to carry out research into aspects of early childhood, primary and secondary schools and tertiary education that make a contribution to the improvement of education policies and practices.
The Centre for Science and Technology Education Research (in conjunction with the School of Science and Technology), the Māori Education Research Unit and the Educational Leadership Centre also carry out both internally and externally funded research, in affiliation with the Institute.
A large number of the School of Education staff are involved in national and international research studies and information about their work can be accessed through the Staff Research (by name) or Search (by keyword) buttons.
