Rebecca is Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research in the Faculty of Education, Queen’s University, Kingston. My undergraduate teaching focuses primarily in English curriculum and the writing component for the Artists-in-the-Community program.
For a number of years I have been a writer, working in freelance nonfiction, poetry and fiction as well as teaching writing.
When I returned to graduate school, my interests as a secondary English teacher and a writer created a strong underpinning for my research.
My two major projects in graduate school, my master’s thesis and my doctoral dissertation, explored some of my questions about writing.
The former investigated junior high students’ perceptions of writing and portfolio usage and critiqued some current writing pedagogy while the latter described my work with three groups (and generations) of women, exploring the close links between writing and subjectivity. |
