Catherine Beavis is Professor in the School Education and Professional Studies, Faculty of Education, Griffith University.

She teaches and researches in the areas of literacy, English education, new media and curriculum. Her research interests focus on literature, literacy, popular culture and ICT, the changing nature of literacy and text, as reflected in online popular culture, and the implications of young people's engagement with digital culture for curriculum and pedagogy in schools.

Recent and current research projects include studies of the use of computer games as text in the secondary English classroom, young people's literacy and communication practices as they engage with online multiplayer computer games.

Her most recent book is Doing literacy online: Teaching, learning and playing in an electronic world , edited with Ilana Snyder, Hampton Press.
