Rosemary Viete is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Monash University, Australia.

For the last 15 years at Monash, she has provided English academic literacy, learning and cultural support, and pastoral care to students undertaking postgraduate studies, many of them international students.

Her work with students on writing pays particular attention to intercultural and interdisciplinary features and attempts not to impose rigid patterns, but to help students express themselves creatively and convincingly.

Her recent research focuses on affect and agency in learning, assessing, writing and teaching across cultures, with particular attention to notions of generative intertextuality.

She is equally concerned with the ethics of teaching and learning languages and the need for attentiveness and respect for diversity in ways of voicing knowledge in academic communities.
