Kate worked as Programme Director and Secondary English course Leader at the University of Southampton from 2002-2010, having previously been a teacher of English and Media Studies in London secondary schools and sixth form colleges.

She has written a number of classroom resources for media education for the English and Media Centre, Auteur and the BFI.

She has researched and presented on the importance of teacher education for media learning and progression. She has served as a member of the executive on the Media Association and on the editorial board for the Media Education Research Journal.

She is now working as a freelance researcher, writer and consultant in the field of media learning and in the wider area of quality assurance, course development and course improvement.
