James Mathews teaches part-time at Middleton Alternative Senior High, where his place-based curriculum connects students with their local community through documentary filmmaking, photography, and digital storytelling. Jim is also a doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin - Department of Curriculum and Instruction. His dissertation research explores how mobile media and geo-locative technologies might be used to support place-based learning and situated storytelling. James is a member of the Games, Learning and Society (GLS) research group at UW-Madison and a founding member of the Local Games Lab, a research group devoted to combining the rich tradition of place-based learning with emerging research related to digital media and new media practices.
