John Potter is Programme Leader for the MA in Media, Culture and Communication at the London Knowledge Lab, part of the Institute of Education at the University of London. He is a member of the Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media directed by David Buckingham. John’s recent research experience has been focused on younger learners as media producers of moving image texts, animation and short digital video pieces. He has also worked with serving teachers and media students developing modules and research on blogging, including the uses of social software across learning contexts. He has presented widely at conferences and seminars and has been involved in a number of research projects in the field of new media in education. Together with Neil Selwyn and Sue Cranmer he is the author of Primary ICT: Learning from Pupil Perspectives - a study of the dispositions of younger learners with regards to new technologies and wider digital culture in formal and informal sites of learning.

Before joining the IOE, John worked for a number of years in teacher education at Goldsmiths College and at the University of East London. He was also an advisory teacher for ICT in Newham in East London and has taught throughout the age range in primary schools. In addition to academic research papers, he has published books for pre-service and in-service teachers on the uses of technology in primary schools.
