Mary C. Hutchinson

Dr. Mary Hutchinson is an assistant professor in ESL Education at Penn State University, Lehigh Valley Campus. As a community-engaged scholar, her research examines the impact of civic engagement on students, faculty and the community. She has published and presented widely about service-learning, which combines academic course content with meaningful community service. This integration allows students to respond to societal needs on both local and global scales and encourages their civic engagement in a multicultural, multilingual world. Dr. Huthchison has taught a variety of courses in writing, teaching ESL, applied linguistics and community-building, and is the former Director of a federally-funded National Writing Project Program. She is currently the Faculty Advisor for the Minor in Civic & Community Engagement..
