Douglas Barnes

After teaching in schools for seventeen years, in 1966 Douglas Barnes was appointed to the University of Leeds where he taught Curriculum Theory and carried out research into language, communication and learning in classrooms. His publications include From Communication to Curriculum (Boynton-Heinemann, 1992), Practical Curriculum Study (Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1982), Becoming an English Teacher (NATE, 2000), and as co-author: Language, the Learner and the School (Boynton-Heinemann, 1990) Communication and Learning in Small Groups (Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1977), School Writing: Discovering the Ground Rules (Open University Press, 1991) and Versions of English (Heinemann, 1984).
