Candance Doerr-Stevens is a doctoral candidate in Critical Literacy and English Education from the department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. She has taught writing at the elementary, junior high, and college levels and currently teaches education courses for pre-service and practicing teachers. Candance’s current research interests include the emergent literacy practices involved in digital writing, in particular the rhetorical affordances of online role-play and identity practices of digital media composition.


In addition to teaching and researching, Candance works closely with the Minnesota Writing Project, a local chapter of the National Writing Project, which supports the professional development of educations K-College. Through her role as both a site leader and Teacher Consultant (TC), she has had the fortunate opportunity to write along side hundreds of teachers, observing several teachers as they find their professional voices and emerge as leaders within their schools and districts.
