Gabrielle Cliff Hodges is a senior lecturer in education at the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education in the UK.

Before moving to work in teacher education in 1993, she taught English in secondary schools for 17 years, four as head of department.

She currently teaches on initial teacher education courses as well as contributing to a Masters programme for teachers in the early years of their careers.

She plays an active role in the United Kingdom Literacy Association and the National Association for the Teaching of English of which she was Chair from 1997-1998.

Her research has focused on creative teaching and learning in English at secondary level, with a particular interest in discovering more about students? reading literacy development.

She is author of Two Poems by John Keats (1998, Sheffield: NATE) and co-editor of Tales, Tellers and Texts (2000, London: Cassell). She has also published a number of chapters and articles on reading, writing and language in secondary English teaching.
