English Teaching: Practice and Critique

Volume 2, Number 3 (December 2003): Focus: Pre-service English education and the beginning teacher

Co-editors: Sue Brindley (University of Cambridge, UK) and Jan Turbill (University of Wollongong, Australia)

Rationale: One of the exciting innovations at the 2003 IFTE Conference in Melbourne was to allow, alongside the papers from established serving teachers and teacher educators, a new and powerful set of voices to emerge: pre-service teachers. The range of presentations from all involved in pre-service education richly enhanced the perspectives on English teaching represented at the conference. This issue of the journal echoes that range and gives scope to new and familiar names in pre-service English education. We represent a range of those involved with pre-service English teaching from primary (Kindergarten - Grade 6) through to secondary and beyond drawing on both research-based reports and teacher narratives.
