Alyson Simpson is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney. She teaches in undergraduate and postgraduate pre-service teacher programmes and supervises research candidates studying in the area of literacy/English education.

Her research projects have examined designs for e-learning and concepts of visual literacy in higher education and primary schools. Her research employs discourse analysis to investigate the issues involved in the nature and development of language, critical literacy, working with children’s literature in online environments, and pedagogic change.

She is a co-editor of Literacy and Social Responsibility (London: Equinox, 2010), author of Reading under the Covers: Helping Children to Choose Books (Newtown: Primary English Teaching Association, 2008) and co-author of Children’s Literature and Computer Based Teaching (London: Oxford University Press, 2005).
